Community Services and Events
All worship services at St. Stephen's are open to all, regardless of whether you are a member, an Episcopalian, or a Christian. All are welcome. Several services are planned especially with the wider community in mind, including the following. (These events will resume when it is safe for us to gather in person again.)
Pride Eucharist: St. Stephen's will join other Episcopal churches in Richmond at the Pride Eucharist at St. Paul's Church near Capitol Square on September 21 at 6 p.m., and at the Pride Festival on Brown's Island on Saturday, September 23.
Blessing of the Animals service: bring your beloved animals for an outdoor service and pet blessing on Sunday, October 2, at 3 p.m. outside the Three Chopt Road entrance to the church. Dogs, cats, gerbils, fish...everyone is welcome.
All Saints Day service, November 1: on this major feast day, we offer a service at noon designed to remember those who have died, particularly those who have died in the past year. The service is livestreamed on this page.
Thanksgiving Day service: this service of Morning Prayer features a sermon and stirring instrumental music and hymns. It takes place on Thanksgiving Day at 10:30 a.m. Read more about this beloved community service, including a brief history of how it came to be, here.
Holiday Memorial Service, early December: a service for those who have lost a child; read more here.
Two Advent presentations by young people: A live nativity presented by the children of the parish features readings, costumed participants, and live animals. It usually takes place in the early evening on a weekday during the fourth week of Advent. Information about how to participate is communicated through our weekly communications and the family ministry newsletter. A youth pageant takes place during the 11:15 a.m. service on the Fourth Sunday in Advent. Read about the children's pageant here, and the youth pageant here.
