Two from St. Stephen’s begin new ministries. Two of our parishioners are embarking on new ministries this month. Deborah Streicker, who in addition to being an active member of St. Stephen’s has been a teacher in St. Stephen’s Preschool and a catechist in our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd formation program for young children, is beginning a three-month period of exploration to see if she may have a longer-term vocation with the L’Arche community in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We sent Deborah forth during the 10 a.m. service this past Sunday using the liturgy for commitment to Christian service. L’Arche communities are family-like homes where people with and without disabilities share their lives together, giving witness to the reality that persons with disabilities possess inherent qualities of welcome, wonderment, spirituality, and friendship. From the first community begun in France in 1964, many communities have developed in various cultural and religious traditions around the world. The first L’Arche community in the United States was founded in 1972 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Today, L’Arche USA has 16 communities and two projects nationwide. Watch a video of Deborah's commitment to Christian service here.
Anne Lane Witt, who grew up at St. Stephen’s, is a May 2010 graduate of the General Theological Seminary in New York. Presented for ordination by St. James’s, Richmond, Anne Lane was ordained this past Saturday to the transitional diaconate during a diocesan service that was held at Christ Church, Charlottesville, and will begin her new ministry at Grace Church in Kilmarnock. A graduate of St. Catherine’s School and the University of Virginia, Anne Lane is the daughter of Ann Witt.

Bluegrass Bash needs your help. Bakers are needed for a cakewalk during the June 19 bluegrass benefit. We'll need 20 items (cake or cupcakes). Items should be delivered Friday, June 18 or Saturday, June 19 and we will have cake boxes available for you to use (pick one up in advance to eliminate the need for transferring your goodies later). We also need volunteers to help the day of the event for such tasks as ticket sales, food sales, greeters and floaters. A shift is 2 1/2 hours. Please contact Taylor Mundy in the parish office if you can help with the cakewalk or on the day of the event.

Summer at St. Stephen's. There are many different opportunities for people of all ages to engage in the ministries of St. Stephen's this summer. Vendors from the Farmers Market @ St. Stephen’s have been generous with donations of fresh, unsold produce to our food pantry ministry. We are so grateful to be able to offer fresh produce to people who do not have usually have access to it. We do need help, though, in re-packaging this food for distribution. If you can help us bag this produce on Mondays, please contact Deb Lawrence in the parish office.
