Haiti

Helping the people of Haiti

St. Stephen’s is a participant in a multi-church effort to provide trucks in the Dominican Republic which will be used to provide assistance in neighboring Haiti. Other participants in our diocese are Grace and Holy Trinity Church here in Richmond, and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Reston. These churches, the Diocese of Virginia, and the Community Foundation are all making it possible for the Rev. Buck Aiken of St. Mark’s, Richmond, to purchase eight to 10 trucks which will be shipped from Miami to Santo Domingo (with the Diocese of Florida absorbing the cost of shipping the trucks). In addition to this effort, we will be working through our partners in the Diocese of the Dominican Republic to assist the people of Haiti. To learn more about our work in the DR, contact the Rev. Weezie Blanchard. To contribute to relief efforts in Haiti, you may give online, or send or bring a check to St. Stephen’s clearly marked for Haiti Earthquake Relief. Or donate to Episcopal Relief and Development.

Episcopal Church missionary Lauren Stanley -- a priest of the Diocese of Virginia who has been living and working in Haiti -- posts the latest information to her blog. You can read it here.
