St. Stephen’s is coordinating a Level I training course for those interesting in becoming a certified Level I catechist. The 100+ hour course will cover age-appropriate themes for children (ages 3-6) from the Bible and liturgy, the purpose and use of the handmade material, an introduction to the atrium, experience in presenting material, and help in preparing a personal handbook (the catechist album). At the conclusion of the course, participants will be prepared to work with young children and provide sufficient foundation to open a Level I atrium.

The training is led by Anna Hurdle, a certified Montessori Elementary Guide and catechist, and a formation leader since 1997. Anna recently led a Level two training course at St. Stephen's which included participants of different Christian denominations from across the United States and Canada.

Catechism often brings to mind the force-feeding of the dogma and the doctrine of the church. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is anything but this rote memorization. Rather than fixating on theological trivia, Catechesis seeks to open and deepen our innate relationships with Christ, the Good Shepherd, and indeed live into the fullness of the Trinity.

Upon completion of all Level I study, the Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will grant a certificate to each participant.
