About Us

St. Stephen's Church is a congregation of more than 4,500 people representing a variety of experiences and backgrounds, liturgical styles and theological viewpoints. St. Stephen's is the largest parish church in the Diocese of Virginia -- one of the largest and oldest dioceses in the Episcopal Church -- and one of the 10 largest Episcopal churches in the United States.

The size of this parish means that we can offer a great deal, not only to our members, but to the community and beyond. But it can be easy to feel lost in a such a large parish, so we provide a variety of ways for you to become engaged in parish life:

  • Be fed by daily worship, small group ministry and Christian education;
  • Be supported through small groups, fellowship, and pastoral care;
  • Be equipped to exercise your vocation as a Christian by engaging in outreach locally, nationally or internationally.
We invite you to explore the pages of our Web site to learn more about these opportunities, and we hope that you will feel how much we are eager to meet you, welcome you, and have you take part in our life.

On behalf of the rector, the Rev. Gary Jones, the vestry, staff and people of St. Stephen's, welcome.
