Parish Life

Wednesday Nights

Wonderful Wednesday suppers / Upcoming Programs

In addition to our many programs and ministries, we offer a casual supper every Wednesday night. “Wonderful Wednesdays” are a time for the entire parish, as well as visitors and friends, to gather for fellowship. We begin supper at 5:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. At 6:30 p.m., many of us stay for a program, while others disperse to small group meetings or music rehearsals. Or, feel free to have a cup of coffee and visit with one another.

Delicious suppers are served by teams of parishioners, and the cost is reasonable: $5 for adults, $3 for children, and a maximum of $20 for a family. We also offer discounted meal tickets for college students.

Bring your entire family. During the program/small group time, our youth and children's ministry staff offers supervised activities for school-age children (called "Just for Kids"). Paid, trained child care workers are on hand to care for younger children. And so that parents can take part in small groups, child care is available until 8:45 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, and if you are considering making St. Stephen’s your parish home, this is a “wonderful” way to meet people.

Wonderful Wednesdays are “come as you are”—don’t get dressed up for us!

Upcoming Wonderful Wednesdays programs

April 2: A program on Peter Paul Development Center, opportunities to volunteer there, and our new transportation plan for St. Stephen's volunteers

April 9: A program on Cross Over Ministry, a faith-based organization providing health care to the poor and uninsured. St. Stephen's hopes to have a "Neighborhood Mission Trip" to this Richmond clinic. Come learn more about Cross Over and how you can support it.

April 16: The Rev. David Anderson will present the second part of his teaching on Jeremy Taylor (Part 1 took place during Lent)

April 23: No program; come for supper, and if you're not in a Wednesday night small group, linger over conversation, coffee and dessert! (Just for Kids will meet.)

April 30: Kristin Wickersham, a member of the Vestry and the chairperson of our Environmental Stewardship Initiative, will lead a discussion of how St. Stephen's can--and how we are--doing our part to be good stewards of God's creation. (Also at 6:30 p.m.: Part 1 of two-part Chalice Bearer Training, taught by the Rev. David Anderson.)

May 7: Mark Wittkofski and other members of the project team planning our Parish Weekend at Shrine Mont (June 20-22) will be on hand to share their exciting plans for this year's event, show photos of past parish weekends, and give you the opportunity to meet others who plan to go, and ask questions. If you are a Shrine Mont regular, please come and share your experiences. If you've never been, please come and learn more. (Also at 6:30 p.m.: Part 2 of two-part Chalice Bearer Training, taught by the Rev. David Anderson.) This is the last Wonderful Wednesday evening until the fall.
