Life Guide
Our Guide to Parish Life describes worship, small groups, outreach, fellowship, youth and children's ministries and other opportunities for involvement. The guide also lists staff and provides contact information for each area of ministry. Copies are available on the Welcome Tables at church. If you wish to have a copy of the guide mailed to you, please email Janet Allen.
Parish Weekend at Shrine Mont
Friday, June 20-Sunday, June 22, 2008
Each year, individuals, couples and families from St. Stephen's travel to Shrine Mont, the diocesan conference center in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, for a weekend away from our busy lives. Our time together includes prayer, worship, music and Christian education, as well as conversation with one another, relaxing by the pool or in rocking chairs on the porch, hikes, games, naps, optional intergenerational activities and delicious, leisurely meals served family-style.
This year, we are in for a treat: our new organist and choirmaster, Dan Moriarty, will offer a special music program. More details to come!
Regardless of whether you've been coming to Shrine Mont since you were a child, or you've never been before, you are welcome. This is a wonderful way to re-connect with family members as well as to get to know fellow St. Stephen's parishioners. Sign up today using one of the generic sign-up sheets found at any Welcome Table at church, or using our online form. Once you sign up, we'll add you to our mailing list and will send you a registration packet with additional details, and instructions about payment, later this spring.
A project team is currently at work on specific plans for our 2008 Shrine Mont weekend. Your participation is welcome; call Mark Wittkofski, 741-1392, if you would like to be on the project team.
Volunteer Opportunities
Have you been seeking a way to offer your gifts of time and talent to St. Stephen's? There are a number of opportunities available; a couple are listed below, and more are listed on our Volunteer page. If you feel led to pursue any of the following ministries, we welcome your inquiries and your participation. Each of these opportunities promises not only a way for you to offer yourself to the service of the church and the community, but to experience deeper fellowship with others at St. Stephen's.
Gracious Gourmets are volunteers who prepare meals to be delivered to families who have recently welcomed a new baby, or who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The Women of St. Stephen's, who oversee this ministry, provide recipes, instructions and delivery bags. Volunteers are being sought for the months of May through August. To volunteer or obtain additional information, call Dabney McCoy, 355-6387.
Catechesis Artisans prepare materials and furnishings for Atria for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a spiritual formation program for young children. Various opportunities are available, some involved, some fairly simple, ranging from carpentry to sewing to painting. Contact Kathy Tappen via email or at 358-1538 for details.
Additional opportunities are available in Pastoral Care and in Outreach. For more information about Pastoral Care, contact the Rev. Weezie Blanchard (ext. 307). For Outreach, contact the Rev. David T. Anderson (ext. 311) or Deb Lawrence (ext. 329).
