The Parish Choir sings for the 9:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist in the church and rehearses for one hour on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 following the parish supper. While this group strives for excellence, it is structured to accommodate those singers whose schedules must remain flexible. This new group is supported by a core of our professional singers, and they also provide support for St. Stephen’s Choristers by singing occasionally with them or by providing the lower parts while the choristers sing the melody. While an audition is not required, a conversation with the director to determine availability and experience will be appreciated. Contact Dan Moriarty, ext. 347.
St. Stephen’s Choir is for professional and volunteer singers with good sight reading skills and voices which blend in proficient ensemble singing and assumes the discipline of regular attendance at rehearsals and services. A simple audition/interview is required before acceptance into this choir. This group typically sings at the 11:15 Sunday service, and other seasonal and special services that occur throughout the year, often on short notice. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, and are usually preceded by supper. St. Stephen’s Choir has made several recordings which have been broadcast locally and nationally and have received favorable reviews in music and church related journals. They have toured locally and made one trip to England where they sang in Salisbury and Canterbury Cathedrals. Contact Dan Moriarty, ext. 347.
Music on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. This service draws on quiet instrumental and vocal music not historically associated with typical Episcopal church worship. On some Sundays, we use elements of Celtic and Taizé sources and utilize one or two instruments such as harp, guitar, hammered dulcimer, flute, or violin, with a cantor who leads congregational song. Adult Handbell Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:30 for one hour and usually is followed by a social time together. They ring for selected services and events throughout the church year. Contact Michael Simpson, ext. 304.
