Confirmation
is an important sacramental rite in the Church and is a step one can take to make
a "mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities
of Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop." (The Book
of Common Prayer, page 412)

St.
Stephen's receives an annual visit from one of our bishopsthe Rt.
Rev. Peter Lee, the Bishop of Virginia, the Rt. Rev. Shannon S. Johnston, Bishop Coadjutor, or the Rt. Rev. David Colin Jones,
Bishop Suffragan. Adults who are interested in being confirmed or received prepare by taking
our Inquirers' Classtaught by the clergy. The class is offered in the fall and again in winter/spring
with the bishop's visit usually following in May (this year's visit is May 4, 2008). Many lifelong Episcopalians
choose to take class to reaffirm their faith. For more information, contact Janet
Allen (288-2867, ext.305). You may also register online for the next class.
